Keratin treatment: the complete guide
What keratin actually does, who it suits, and the aftercare that decides how long it lasts.
What a keratin treatment does
A keratin treatment coats and fills the hair shaft with protein, then seals it with heat. The result is smoother cuticles, less frizz and faster drying — not permanently straight hair. It is a smoothing service, not a structural one.
Keratin versus rebonding
Rebonding breaks and reforms the hair's disulphide bonds; the change is permanent until new hair grows. Keratin is a surface treatment that washes out over 8 to 12 weeks. Rebonding suits very coarse or curly hair that must be straight; keratin suits wavy or frizzy hair that needs to be manageable.
Aftercare that protects it
Wait 48 to 72 hours before the first wash. Then use a sulfate-free aftercare shampoo, a weekly protein-and-collagen mask, and a leave-in serum on the ends. Sulfates strip the treatment fastest, so read the label before you switch products.
The BlossomK routine
Keratin Aftercare Shampoo (sulfate free), Biotin & Collagen Hair Mask weekly, and the Anti-Frizz Hair Serum on damp ends before drying.
