On natural black or dark brown hair, 5/3 needs about two levels of lift. Use a 9% (30 vol) developer on hair that has not been coloured before, and do a strand test first; very dark hair can turn out warmer than the swatch.
Tone
A golden (/3) tone: warm and bright, it suits wheatish and warm skin and makes hair look sunlit.
Grey coverage
Fashion tones cover grey less fully on their own. For more than about a third grey, mix 5/3 1:1 with the natural shade of the same depth, then add developer.
How to apply
